Sully

We saw this film on Monday.  What an amazing transformation Tom Hanks made in becoming Chesley Sullenberger, not only in appearance but in portraying this deeply introspective man.

The Real Sully
I guess us regular folks would like to think that we'd step up to the plate in the very same way Sully did, if needed.  And then suffer with dignity through the subsequent investigation.

I'll have to say that elderly director Clint Eastwood's still got it.  He takes us on a great ride, both visually and emotionally.  (I love it that most Millennials and Gen-Xers don't know Clint as the "Make my day," "shoot everybody in sight", loner guy.  They know him only as a sensitive director.  And he is that.)  To see the re-creation of the flight and crash (forced landing) is worth sitting through what some have said is a tedious first half of the film.  My only complaint would be that the first half was very stressful for me - even though we already knew exactly how things played out.

What can we say about Tom Hanks?  He's this generation's Jimmy Stewart.  Did you see that a couple of days ago he was jogging in Central Park and came upon a wedding couple.  He "made their day" by becoming part of their celebration.  What a guy!
