Swan Song - A person's final public performance or professional activity before retirement.
I started writing this blog, titled "My Best Time." in 2007, almost 20 years ago. What prompted it was my absolutely astounding new relationship with this guy named David. We kind of fell into each other's lives quite by accident in 2005. I spent my entire adult life in Florida. David spent his entire adult life in Minnesota. He lived in the same house for 44 years.
One of the most healing things about our relationship early on was that we were still grieving the death of our spouses who died the year prior to our meeting. David and I were both married to our former spouses for 40 plus years. The healing came because we told each other over and over how hard the final year was prior to their deaths.
I've done around 2,000 posts over these decades. The postings are still being read, mostly here in the states but around the world. But writing has become difficult, especially the technology.
A couple of weeks ago I lent my friend, Christie, a book titled Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine. Christie didn't care for the book. Hum. Well, this morning I found my review of the book on this blog. I was reminded of why I loved it and understood why Christie did not.
It's good to know when to say "Uncle." We all know folks who've refused to sing the swan song and have embarrassed themselves because of it.
So, hope you will still enjoy the blog. It will be here forever.
